Chasing After God?

John 17:3  Eternal life is to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, the one you sent. Eternal Life is defined as knowing the Father and the son. Not just a head knowledge but a level of intimacy, shown forth in our ability to not only talk about Him, but to Talk to Him. It is not just about hearing about Him on Sundays, but hearing Him speak on Mondays and Tuesdays. There is nothing in my life I desire more than to hear God’s Voice on a daily basis. I am not satisfied with knowing about Him, I want to know Him. I want to be like Him, I want to be His hands and feet and voice to others who do not hear Him, or know Him.

I am a baseball fan and I know Derek Jeter. I could pick him out of a crowd very easily.  I have  a shirt with his name on it, I bought at a playoff game one year. I have shouted his name out loud in Yankee Stadium. I have made up songs about him in my living room after he has gotten a clutch hit, or made a spectacular play. I know he has over 3200 hits, I know he will be a 1st ballot Hall of Famer. I know the Yankees will retire his number 2. I know a lot about Derek Jeter yet despite all of that I know him based on a head knowledge of him. I am a fan of him, but I do not have a relationship with him.

For some of us our knowledge of God is similar to my knowledge of Derek Jeter.  I want to challenge you this Easter to Chase after God with all of your heart, mind, soul and strength and get to know Him intimately.  This Sunday there will be many who cheer for the resurrection as a fan, instead of as a family member. Relationship is about being  more than a fan. It is about having access at all times, in all seasons, for any reason. Fans do not get to choose when they have access, in relationship we choose to be with each other.

Let us Chase after Him and encounter and experience the miracle working, life changing, community awakening, history making, dream giving, passion reviving, purpose declaring, love showering,  all powerful, and all knowing God. Let’s get to know not just the God of the stories but the God of our life, not just alive in heaven but alive in you and I. He knows you, has a purpose for you, has an assignment for you, has a dream for you, has a destiny for you.

Let’s get to know Him this Easter, so that we can do more than celebrate His resurrection we can experience His Life.
